Weight Off at Work
Sitting at a desk job for hours on end can hurt one’s attempt to lose weight. Try these tips and keep active in order to lose poounds.
Commute – Try biking or walking to work. Or if you take the bus or subway, get off a few stops earlier so you are able to walk some of the way. If you drive, well just park farther away!
Stand up – There is no doubt that standing burns more calories than sitting. And sitting can be harmful to your health. So while on the phone, stand up and talk. Or instead of posting an note to someone, walk to their desk. Stand up and stretch every 30 minutes.
Break for Fitness – as you would break for lunch. Instead of taking 10 minutes to hang out by the coffee machine, why not go for a ten minute break, or stretch?
Fitness Ball Chair – Trade in your chair for a fitness, stability ball. Sounds funny, and probably looks funny too, but why not? You’ll be engaging your core so much more. They also make Chairs with stability balls in them.
Keep Equipment near by – this may be odd as well, but if you are trying to lose weight, people will understand. Also, you may start a fitness trend! Keep some weights in your desk, resistance bands or a jump rope. Anything counts
Socialize – Have an hour for lunch? Why not use some of that time to go on a brisk walk with friends? Take 30 minutes to walk around the area and then talk 30 minutes for lunch.
Playtime Meetings – depends on your type of business, but conduct walking meetings or brainstorming sessions. Smilings, laughing, being outside and active all are good, healthy stimulates and help the brain. You may just come up with the perfect idea.
Travel for work – Plan ahead. If you know you’ll be in airports, bring healthy snacks. Also back your gym shoes in your carry on. Lots of airports have gyms, or are close to hotels that you may able to use the gym. Don’t be afraid to ask. Also stay at hotels that have gyms or pools.
Treadmill Desk – This will be very difficult, but it is doable. You don’t have to break a sweat or go fast, but just move. If you can comfortably position your desk over a treadmill, with computer and all. You can walk while working. Brilliant Idea!
