The Upper Crust

Author: sophiecore
11 13th, 2008

General: This is considered to be the best pizza is boston. On a summer day, you can find many people sitting on the steps eating large slices of the day’s pizza. Locations are all over. go to http://www.theuppercrustpizzeria.com to find more.

She Said: This place is small, but the pizza is large! In 2007 and 2008, the UpperCrust was considered Boston’s Best Pizza by the Improper Bostonian. The pizza is very good. I enjoy the thin crust and the availability to get Whole Wheat Pizza and all sorts of toppings in order to create your own. The spinach square aren’t anything good. So, do not waste money on these tiny bites.

He Said: I like all the toppings you can have here, It makes the pizza interesting, also the pick of the day is usually good, last night was pine apple, jalapeño, and bacon, not bad at all. They have beer and wine on the restaurant, which is perfect if you are in a rush and want to grab a pretty decent pizza, fat food but quality. They offer 3 types of salads, I usually go for the Greek salad. Go here if you are walking down the street and you are hungry, have a beer or wine and a slice

Vox

General: American and loud. A place to grab you’re after work cocktail. Located on Boylston across from the new Mandarin Hotel, this place is always full of fun people. Located: 755 Boylston St. www.voxboston.com

She Said: This is starting to be my second home! The staff here is wonderful, and the food always smells good. I’ve had oysters here, which were pretty good. The MacnCheese is good, but I don’t really like macnhcheese in general. The vox bruscetta.. eh.. You know where I’m going.. It’s a fun place to meet with friends, have a little nibble or a salad. The presentation is pretty and the food smells good, but it’s not my favorite dinner place. Go to Vox if you’re looking for a good time and a great atmosphere. You’ll get it.

He Said: I am like always here, this is like the local bar, that everyone knows you and you know everyone, lucky for  the food is pretty good, we come here just to chill any other day, the last time we had food there, i was to drunk to rmember, haha.  but she said it was good.. Being there so many times I had tried many things including brunch. I will totally recomend this place to any one. just go chill and ejoy.. We will keep updating this posts since this place is an ongoing thing.

Sel de la Terre

General: Restaurant, Bar, Boulangerie, 774 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02199  • 617 266 8800, this a chain and there are other locations thru the state. for more info go to http://www.seldelaterre.com/

She Said: I’m going to make this simple and sweet. Not my place at all, not my idea of a fun place, not even a place to take my parents. You go here, all you see is business people or people talking stocks. All though our waitress was nice and helpful, I was too impressed on a) the wine list.. one french wine for a french restaurant. b) food was okay, but not my style. c) the atmosphere. If I don’t like the atmosphere, then probably I won’t enjoy anything….

He siad: This french bistro, is not pretensius or trys to be. once i walk in the decor feels like nothing particular is nice, and all is where it should be, but screams chain. Almost like chesse cake factory with a french touch. for me the ambience of place is important but not a deal breaker, in the end she and I are in the quest for the ultimate good food. so we decided to give it a try. The wine list only had one frech bottle to order not very impressive, the menu is short and there are several things we could order, we did try the french frites wich i belive were pretty good. As main dish i had the rack of lamb, in my opinion it was ok, not to flavorfull. oh well!, I finish the night with a Mexican coffe as a dessert and digestive that was pretty good and probably the highlight of the dinner. Go there if yu are with a big group of people and in the area, never as place you pick just to have dinner.

JP Licks

General: Homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt! They do their own thing, and it’s Good! Boston operated.

She Said: I wouldn’t consider myself a big dessert fan, but the occasional fro-yo happens. I love frozen yogurt, but I think what I love more are the topping that I can put on it. I really enjoy the peanut butter fro-yo from JP Licks and then I top it off with Reeses Pieces. They have all flavors, but I feel that they lack in the topping choices!

He Said: I would love if they had more toppings, I love their ice cream and all the cow deco, She and I enjoy much finishing a good party or dinning out night here. oh sit at the tin cup in the front

Scoozi (updated)

General: Scoozi! The best place on earth. International, young and fun crowd. Good food, good Sangria, good friends. Located: 237 Newbury St.

She Said Update: Not much new to say about this place. I’m here all the time. I’d say almost once a week! I took my mum here as well. Unfortunately we had to sit inside, but none the less it was still fun. She even liked the Sangria and normally she doesn’t. The pizza was yummy :) we had the veggie one.

He Said Update: There is always a summer song, a summer outfit, and a summer place for food an drinks, this was the place to be for the summer. One more thing I love the Tuna Putanesca panini. yeah!

City Bar - The Lenox Hotel

Author: sophiecore
09 7th, 2008

General: City Bar is located in the Lenox Hotel. This is a pretty fancy place. I believe this bar is kind of for the “older” crowd, but it’s very nice. I saw a range of people there. Located: 61 Exeter St, Btwn Boylston & Blagden St.

She Said: We didn’t eat at City Bar, but there were drinks around the table. He and She took She’s mum, K around the town, for a night cap, the stop was City Bar. I had the Guava Martini, which He recommended. Not a bad choice. I thought the flavor was tasty. However, K didn’t enjoy her dry martini as much. I didn’t ask her why, which I should have, but all I know is that my mum knows her martini’s and if this wasn’t the cut, well then don’t order the dry martini here! The next night, we did a night cap again at City Bar. I had the Ruby which is a champagne cocktail. I thought it was so good! I’d order it again and AGAIN. They just used Pom juice…. so there is nothing special, but I enjoyed it. K thought it tasted like cough medicine! As for Service… it was accommodating. K is hard of hearing and City Bar is quiet enough for anyone.

He Said: I like this bar, is good is well decorated and “confi”, every time I come here is almost a rule to get guava martini’s they are so good, I am glad she like it. It is a good place to end up the night. quiet and close to all the other croweded bars, specially after 12. Beware thoug they are very strict about wearing hats, so all those sports fans out there trying to wear your team colors on the head, this is not the spot. I’ll kepp you posted as my next try will be the expresso martinis. cheers!!!

Tapeo

Author: sophiecore
09 7th, 2008

On the busy street of Newbury, you’ll find this awesome tapas restaurant. Tapeo is for people who like adventure and aren’t scared to try something new! Always a large crowd, always a bit of a wait, and expensive, but well worth it. Located: 266 Newbury St.

She Said: Tapeo: Loud, Spanish, Fun, Tapas and Long Waits are some of the words to describe this great place. None the less, it’s a favorite. Tapeo is on the busy street of Newbury, so you’ll always have a wait, no matter what, but it is absolutally worth it. The atmosphere is very nice, the service is great and the food is outstanding! The dishes ordered included Mejillones con Aguacate (mussels with avocado) - very nice salsa. There was a lot of flavor. Pimientos Asados (roasted red peppers) - nothing about it.. no flavor. Gorditas (prunes stuffed with goat cheese, wrapped in bacon) - SO GOOD! these prunes had so much flavor and taste to them. He ate the bacon. Scallops and swordfish skewers, which were just okay…. and for the BEST dish: Tuna STuffed octopus in its own black ink! AMAZING. yeah it sounds gross.. but it is the best thing in the world. I don’t care who you are.. you have to try it.

He siad: Ok tapas are some of my favorite food, I kind of grow up with them, my mom use to make us these treats all the time. Although the selection at tapeo is more of an americanize version you still find on the menu interesting stuff like “Tuna Stuffed octopus in its own black ink” this was great just like she said’s. The service is always nice, I always find some one who speaks spanish so i just feel like at home. In last nights case we had Alberto he is from Columbia and he was pretty cool, he bought us a round of Sangria and a Flan, we usally don’t eat dessert, but I am glad we did it was really good… Thanks Alberto.

So I encourage you to go and try it is a fun place and I am sure with whom ever you go with they will enjoy it as much as She and I did.

Fenway park

Author: psound
09 7th, 2008

General: Home of the Boston Red Sox and one of the two oldest base balls parks in America, Located at Boston Red Sox, 4 Yawkey Way, Boston MA 02215-3496

She Said: umm really I have no idea what to say… It’s the baseball field, so you’ll find the baseball essentials: Franks, Dogs, PopCorn, Beer, Ice Cream… etc…. However I did run into a stand that served “healthy’ option: yogurt, carrots and dip. Myself, sneak in what little nibbles I can in my pockets. As for restaurants surrounding the area… There are many, but I can’t tell you about them because I haven’t eaten there and they don’t appeal to me!

He Said: Fenway franks, Fenway franks, they are raw simple hot dogs but for us base ball lovers and sox fans this food and crappy but expensive beer is as close as you get to live the Boston passion for their sports teams. I love this place and I think the whole old vive of fenway is enough for me to keep coming back for as many games I can. One tip though, If you get a chance to go to a day game during the week, totally do it. is the best experience. Go Sox!!!!

Stephanie’s on Newbury

Author: psound
07 30th, 2008

General: Preppy, popular, summer outdoor patio American food restaurant on the heart of back bay. Located: 190 Newbury St., Boston, MA, 02116. Right on the corner of Newbury and Exceter.

She Said: I’ve been to Stephanie’s a few different times. The first was back when I visited Boston to check out schools. I loved it from the start. haha. I don’t know why. Maybe at first it was because I felt it was a “family” setting… My sister, my mum and our friend all went to Stephanie’s and had a wonderful time. The other times I’ve been, I’ve been just as satisfied. Dishes I recommend include (oh, ps, the dishes are pretty big): baked spinach and artichoke dip, Asian Yellow Fin Tuna Salad, Ahi Tuna Tartare… and their Bloody Mary’s are pretty good too. OHHH! can’t forget.. their Brunch menu is fantastic.. check it out.

He Said: We have been here more than a couple of times, one of them I had of all things the meatloaf, it was pretty good for a meal that is usually so blah! The portions on this place are pretty big. so you have to be careful on what to order. If you don’t have a big appetite, sharing meals is a good idea. On the summer be prepared for a wait if you want to dine out doors and people watch, during the winter still pretty popular and you might experience some waiting. They have a great bar so you can consider ordering almost any kind of drinks. Margaritas are good as well as the white sangria. this place is one of those that we can always go when we don’t want to put to much effort on deciding or are just in between doing something else.

The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill

Author: sophiecore
07 18th, 2008

General: The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill serves mexican/southwestern bar food and cheap eats. Located at 84 Boylston St, Btwn Berkeley & Arlington St.

She Said: Looking for cheap eats, some beer and to watch some sports game…. then go to the Rattlesnake. You’re in for a treat…. a bad one. I didn’t enjoy this place. It’s not a typical place for me to go, which is good that I write about this bar. Not my normal scene, not a very nice looking place and bad food. I had chips and salsa and black bean soup. How can you go wrong making black bean soup??? It wasn’t good! I only came here because a friend was having a beer. Now I know not to ever go to this place again. Just bad in general and a waste of time.

He Said: For the top of Boylston St, where in general you find good food and decent services, I say I would never come back here, I had the hamburger, not impress at all it was pretty mediocre even for just bar food, then the service was terrible the waitress didn’t get my bill right and it took for ever, the bouncer at the entrance were rude with she, totally uncalled for! This place doesn’t deserve back bay status, thats why I have heard that is never the first choice of anyone, everyone that goes there is more because they stumble in or because the other bars / restaurants in the area are completely full.
