The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill
Author: sophiecore
General: The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill serves mexican/southwestern bar food and cheap eats. Located at 84 Boylston St, Btwn Berkeley & Arlington St.
She Said: Looking for cheap eats, some beer and to watch some sports game…. then go to the Rattlesnake. You’re in for a treat…. a bad one. I didn’t enjoy this place. It’s not a typical place for me to go, which is good that I write about this bar. Not my normal scene, not a very nice looking place and bad food. I had chips and salsa and black bean soup. How can you go wrong making black bean soup??? It wasn’t good! I only came here because a friend was having a beer. Now I know not to ever go to this place again. Just bad in general and a waste of time.
He Said: For the top of Boylston St, where in general you find good food and decent services, I say I would never come back here, I had the hamburger, not impress at all it was pretty mediocre even for just bar food, then the service was terrible the waitress didn’t get my bill right and it took for ever, the bouncer at the entrance were rude with she, totally uncalled for! This place doesn’t deserve back bay status, thats why I have heard that is never the first choice of anyone, everyone that goes there is more because they stumble in or because the other bars / restaurants in the area are completely full.

Kashmir Indian Restaurant
Author: sophiecore
General: Fantastic Indian Restaurant located in the best part of Newbury Street. Kashmir is authentic, yet decorated a bit more modernly. Located: 279 Newbury St, At Gloucester St.
She Said: If you are looking for a good atmosphere and really good Indian food, Kashmir is the place to go. I know this is the only Indian restaurant I’ve tried so far in Boston, but I know my Indian palate. I’ve grown up eating home-made Indian food, as well as having dinner at Indian restaurants around the world. Kashmir on Newbury street matches to some of the high end Indian places I’ve been too. The atmosphere and the staff are great and the food is excellent. I would recommend going with a group of friends so many dishes can be tested and shared. The menu is extensive and everything sounds good. My favorite vegetarian dish is Saag Paneer which is Spicy spinach cooked with pieces of fresh home-made cheese. Of course, naan is to die for! Like many places on Newbury street, the outdoor seating at Kashmir is pleasant when the weather permits. Kashmir also has a list of flavors for hooka/shisha, if you’re into that.
He Said: I love Indian food, is very tasty and spicy, at the begining I was reluctant to try this restaurant, nothing bad that I heard, except that it was in newbury st. So I was why pay newbury prices for what many other places around the city offer? Well we went, and i don’t regret it, the foos was very good. the meat dishes are carefully selected and the rice is good. one thing if you like spicy food go for the hot not medium my waiter warn about being to hot. so i choose medium, and it wasn’t hot at all. Also they have a good buffet for lunch and you can always smoke a hooka/shisha.

Stix
Author: sophiecore
General: ‘New’ American Restaurant, Stix, is a newly opened hotstop. Stix opened in November 2007 and has been recieving great reviews (Boston Globe Magazine: Best of the New 2008)!! This restaurant and lounge bar is one you MUST try out. Located: 35 Stanhope St, Btwn Clarendon & Berkley
She Said: Trendy, out-of-the-way, yet cool as hell restaurant that definately makes you wonder about the name…Well it did for us! Stix is an awesome place. I went here for my birthday and had a fabulous time! For me, the menu is to die for. Everything sounds wonderful and seriously, everything I had, from the signature plates to the drinks and finally dessert, IS! For my birthday dinner, I had the signature STIX Tuna Sashimi Style on Ginger Mango STIX. When the waitress asked if that was all I was having, I said yeah… However I found out that the restaurant is named STIX because the food is served on sticks! DUH. Silly he and she…Tthere were about three sticks on my plates, so I ordered the Tofu on Mexican Fiesta STIX. Both of these were enough to fill me right up. The signature STIX are very cute. The food was delicious and I completely recommend trying this place out. I do warn you… When the dude at the bar says there is a line of people waiting at the door to come in and party at their “club,” do not stay. It is absolutally not worth it! You’ll have more fun hitting up your normal bar.
He Said: I loved this place, is original and tasty, the food is served on stix’s hence the name. I was happy I went there, It was perfect for something different and in our case to celebrate her birthday. The menu is short and not complex. Also get the desert stix’s they are really good. The staff is friendly and the decor is nice and contemporary. One thing if you have a big appetite be prepare to order a lot of those stix’s.
Croma
Author: sophiecore
General: This Italian/pizza restaurant open for lunch and dinner everyday, and brunch on the weekends. It’s open late and there is always a variety of people there. Croma has an extensive list of pizza dishes, salads, and appetizers. Located: 269 Newbury St, Btwn Gloucester & Fairfield St, Boston MA
She Said: I constantly pass this restaurant as I walk around town, I look at it, notice the large outside seating, but make nothing more. For me, it’s just another pizza place… but a bit nicer. One day, I finally find myself in Croma. Laughing, talking and enjoying everyone around me. I think to myself, “not such a bad setting after all!” The spinach and artichoke dip was very good, I do admit. The pizza is thin crust and tastes great! … I wouldn’t come all the time, but if you’re in the mood for a sit down and a pizza, this is probably the place. Plus, the outside patio makes it a good choice for people watching! The atmosphere of Croma is the peak.
He Said: The first time I went to this place it was more because the wait at the other places in Newbury was to long. Once in I was pleased with the look and feel (causal-chick), the menu seems pretty straight forward for any American-Italian place. I would like to point out the drink menu, it is pretty creative with names like Purple Haze, and Grey Goose margarita.
All the pizzas are really good, being my recommendation the BBQ chicken one, the appetizers are not bad either, If you want something simple that taste good Croma is good choice for all you Newbury st. walkers.

Casa Romero
Author: sophiecore
General: This little mexican restaurant is set in the heart of Back Bay, yet you will never be able to find it. Located in an alley off Newbury Street, Casa Romero is truly a treasure to find. This authentic restaurant is filled with the sounds, lights, sights, and tastes of Mexico!
Located: 30 Gloucester St, Btwn Newbury St & Rt 20
She Said: This cute and date-worthy type of a restaurant is definitely a well kept secret, located in the alley. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of mexican food, yet I enjoyed coming here and trying something new. This place is a bit pricey for my usual taste, so I expect the best… I feel I did get that when I order the Vegetables served with a Guajilo Sauce and a Corn Talame. I also recommend the Cactus and Tomato salad… just a nice, refreshing taste! As for drinks… Sangria! I just love the stuff. You’ll also get chips and salsa… nothing special here, just standard… I think I’d come here again, even though Mexican food isn’t my favorite. The location is wonderful, since its off crazy Newbury; there is a small patio, which is great when the sun is shinning and you’re sitting having a drink; and finally, the place is cozy and friendly!
He Said:
This place reminds me of some quaint, old places you might find in the middle of the Mexican heartland. The menu is pretty authentic, and the decor is what is expected of a Mexican restaurant in America. The food is good, and the carne asada is my favorite dish there. I have heard the fish is tasty, as is the enchiladas verdes. Overall I like Casa Romero, and it is definitely a spot to visit in Boston if you are looking for fine dinning with a kick.
One caveat: be prepared to pay typical Newbury (read premium) prices when you go down this ally for a little bit of south-of-the-border experience.

Trident Café
Author: sophiecore
Trident Café is a great little diner & coffee shop. It’s also a bookstore, so it becomes the perfect combination of reading and eating! At Trident, you’ll be able to pair you’re favorite books and magazines with some good, wholesome food and/or drinks. They also feature an extensive array of teas, fresh squeezed juices, smoothies and coffee. There is also free wi-fi at Trident Café.
Located at 338 Newbury St, Btwn Massachusetts Ave & Hereford St.
She Said:
I absolutely love coming here. I really don’t know what is better than reading and having tea on a Sunday afternoon. My personal favorites drinks are the veggie and fruit juices. As for food, you can find me having the MAPLE NUT GRANOLA and the FRESH FRUIT SALAD. If you are a breakfast person, Trident is the one for you because you can get breakfast at any hour!
He Said:
I’ve got to admit, at the beginning I wasn’t so warm to the idea of this place. Perhaps it was the whole veggie-first vibe, but now I am glad I went. They have food for everyone, even us meat-eaters; you will find chicken quesadillas, hamburgers, and even meatloaf on the menu. But the real gems of this place are the smoothies and teas. You can’t go wrong with the Trident smoothie, a blend of orange juice, banana, and various berries. Like she said, this is a great place to relax, read a book or a magazine, browse the net or just enjoy the food. Don’t let the whole green intellectual facade scare you from a good meal.

Scoozi
Author: sophiecore
General:
International, young crowd with the best sangria in Back Bay. Located on the corner of Newbury St. and Fairfield. (237 Newbury St.)[googleMap name="Scoozi"]237 Newbury St. Boston MA[/googleMap]
She Said:
I’ve been to this little restaurant a few times with a few different friends. The food is wonderful, the hostess’ are excellent and the atmosphere is always energetic. The best thing about Scoozi’s is their sangria. The added cut up fruit is one of my favorite parts and I’m always struggling to get the last of it! The inside is pretty small, only about 5 tables, but the outside patio is awesome. There is nothing better when the sun is shining than a pitcher of sangria, a salad and people watching with friends.
PROS: Sangria and pizza is great to share, outside patio, cheap and fun place!
CONS: inside seating is very small, always busy during lunch.
He said:
This place has a certain “je ne sais quoi” that reminds me of some spots from home…maybe it is because I always hear people speaking Spanish, French or English with some other foreign accent. While some Bostonians might initially find the crowd distant and aloof, people are actually pretty friendly as they hang out and just try to have a good time. The menu is pretty straight-forward with treats for every taste; I recommend going for a panini, and the BBQ chicken pizza is a must. A pitcher of sangria seems to be the drink of choice, and for good reason: it’s phenomenal, fruity and powerful. This is definitely a spot I like to frequent and I recommend to anyone who is going down Newbury and wants to make a pit stop while enjoying a beautiful day in Boston.
PROS: Located in the middle of Newbury, prices are reasonable, and the staff is very friendly and attentive.
CONS: Wait time can be very long, no sangria by the glass.
